Horary: Finding a Missing Pet #

Setting Up the Chart #

Missing pet questions use the sixth house and its ruler as the primary significator for the animal. Small domestic animals (cats, dogs, rabbits) are traditionally associated with the sixth house. Larger animals (horses, livestock) may use the twelfth house. The querent is represented by the first house ruler as usual, and the question is whether the two significators will perfect an aspect – indicating recovery.

Will the Pet Be Found? #

The primary question is whether the querent’s significator and the pet’s significator are applying to an aspect. An applying conjunction, trine, or sextile strongly suggests recovery. A square may indicate recovery but with difficulty or delay. No applying aspect between the significators is a challenging indicator, though translation of light by the Moon or another planet may still bring the matter to completion through an intermediary.

The pet’s significator in an angular house suggests the animal is nearby, accessible, and likely to be found. In a succedent house, the animal is at a moderate distance and recovery is possible but less immediate. In a cadent house, the animal may be far away, difficult to locate, or already beyond recovery.

Directional Indicators #

The sign of the pet’s significator provides directional clues. Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) indicate east. Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) indicate south. Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) indicate west. Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) indicate north. The house placement adds environmental information – water houses suggest near water or low-lying areas, fire houses suggest warm or elevated places.

Timing Recovery #

Timing is typically measured by the number of degrees separating the applying aspect between significators. The unit of time (hours, days, weeks) depends on the house and sign quality – angular houses and cardinal signs suggest faster timing, cadent houses and fixed signs suggest slower timing.
