Horary: Will I Get the Job? #
Setting Up the Chart #
Employment questions require distinguishing between types of work. A position of authority, a career-defining role, or a prestigious appointment uses the tenth house ruler as the job’s significator. A routine position, a service role, or daily employment uses the sixth house ruler. The querent is represented by the first house ruler. The key question is whether these two significators will perfect an aspect.
Key Indicators of Success #
Strong positive indicators include: an applying conjunction, trine, or sextile between the querent’s significator and the job’s significator; mutual reception between them (both parties genuinely want the arrangement); the querent’s significator angular and well-dignified (the querent is in a strong position); and the Moon applying to the job’s significator (the matter is moving toward completion).
The tenth house cusp and any planets in the tenth house provide additional testimony about the nature and quality of the position itself. A well-dignified planet in the tenth suggests a genuinely good opportunity.
The second house and its ruler also deserve examination, since the second house governs the querent’s financial resources and earnings. A favorable connection between the second house ruler and the job significator suggests the position will be financially rewarding. If the second house ruler is debilitated or afflicted, the position may come with disappointing compensation even if the querent secures it.
Key Indicators of Denial #
Warning signs include: no applying aspect between significators; the Moon void of course; prohibition by a faster planet (a competitor or intervening circumstance); the querent’s significator combust (the querent is in a weakened or overshadowed position); and the job significator retrograde (the position itself is being reconsidered or may not materialize as described).
Competition and Timing #
If the question involves competition for the position, other applicants may be represented by planets in the seventh or eleventh house. Their condition compared to the querent’s significator provides relative assessment of competitive strength. When a planet prohibits the perfection of the aspect between the querent and the job significator, it often represents a rival candidate who secures the position first, or an administrative obstacle that derails the process.
Timing follows the standard horary method: the number of degrees between the applying significators indicates the time unit, with the sign and house qualities determining whether the unit is days, weeks, or months.
Practical Considerations #
The astrologer should determine whether the querent is asking about a specific known position or about employment prospects in general. A question about a specific role produces a more focused chart, as the significators clearly represent the querent and that particular job. A general “Will I find work?” question may be better addressed by examining the overall condition of the sixth and tenth houses, the Moon’s applying aspects, and whether any significator is moving toward perfection.
It is also worth noting whether the job significator is in a fixed, cardinal, or mutable sign. Cardinal signs suggest the position will begin quickly once offered. Fixed signs suggest stability and long tenure. Mutable signs may indicate that the role itself is subject to change, redefinition, or that the terms shift between the offer and the start date. The Part of Fortune and its relationship to the significators can add further testimony about the overall benefit the position would bring to the querent.
