The solitary retreats are not optional. The individual who maintains constant social engagement without honoring the twelfth house’s demand for privacy will discover that the unprocessed material begins to leak into the social life in disruptive ways: dreams that destabilize the waking mood, emotional reactions that are disproportionate to the stimulus, or an accumulating intensity that finds no healthy outlet and eventually produces a crisis that forces the retreat the individual should have taken voluntarily.
